Removing Grease From Concrete, Laminate & Quarry Tile Floors in Kitchen
Now that spring is finally here and summer is upon us, through the month of August A&A Professional Cleaning Service, Inc. will provide some affordable tips for improving your premises.
If you own or manage a restaurant you already know the importance of providing the best environment for your customers. If your monthly expenses are exceeding your budget it may appear as though this will not allow you the opportunity to make any substantial improvements at this time.
Keep in mind that any small improvement you make to your premises demonstrates to your guests’ your pride in your business which is the key ingredient in keeping and attracting new customers.
Under every stove, grill or fryer you will find grease building up on the floors. Once the grease becomes embedded into the floor turning to a hard black grime as ( illustrated in our photo ) you will need to take certain steps to remove the grease or ( if ignored ) risk your floor from slowly decaying.
Our Affordable Solution:
The following tools and materials can be purchased at Lowes Hardware for around $ 50.00
- 4ft Warner Floor Scraper
- 2 pk 3M Heavy Duty Stripping Pads
- Gloves
- Terry Cloth Towels -
- 2 Bolts & 2 Wing Nuts
- Heavy Duty Degreaser
- Spray Bottle
PLUS a simple method and steps to remove grease with great results!
#1 If your floor has an excessive amount of hard black grime already built up. use a plastic spray bottle filled with a Heavy Duty Degreaser ( full strength ) Spray no more then a 2 x 2 ft section at a time allowing the degreaser to soak on the floor for a minimum of 5 minutes.
#2 Take your 4 ft Warner Floor Scraper and remove as much of the grime as possible without risking damaging the integrity of the floor. Note -If the grime is minimal, you can skip this step and move to # 3.
#3 Take a pair of channel lock plyers and remove the blade, bolts & nuts from the base of the scraper and insert your 5/16 x 1 bolts ( item # 63317 ) through the holes in the base evenly aligning them directly through one of your 3M Heavy Duty Stripping Pads and tighten with the 5/16-18 Wing Nuts ( item # 490671 – 58096
#4 Place the 2nd sponge ( from the package ) directly under the sponge that is mounted to the base and begin to scrub away the grease from the floor.
#5 Upon completion of step # 4 – Set aside the scrubbing pad and run some hot water over two terry cloth towels, placing them directly under the mounted sponge, using the towels as a mop head to wipe away the dissolved grease.
#6 Once you are totally satisfied with the amount of grease that is removed, take two dry terry cloth towels and wipe away the excess water and residue off the floor.
_______ Note To Our Readers _______
After cleaning hard grease from the surface of more then a few commercial kitchen floors, I was surprised how little effort, time and expense was involved in doing this job given the right tools and method of cleaning compared to using a pressure washer.
